November 4 – National Unity Day
National Unity Day, which is celebrated on November 4, is one of the newest holidays in Russia. The public holiday has been celebrated since the Kremlin introduced it in 2005.
With a little bit more background: This public holiday commemorates an uprising that freed Moscow from Polish-Lithuanian occupation forces on November 4, 1612. Leaders of the uprising Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, became national heroes. In 1649, Russian Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich made November 4 a public holiday.
Happy National Unity Day!
