On May 25, 2017 Nevsky Shipyard laid the second vessel of a series of five dry cargo vessels of RSD59 project with deadweight of 7500/5200 tons of Volgo-Don Max class (building number 592).
The construction contracts between LLC “Nevsky Shipyard”, CJSC "State Transport Leasing Company" and LLC "Pola Rise" were signed in December 2016. The project is developed by CJSC “Marine engineering Bureau-design-SPb.
The main advantages of dry cargo vessel project RSD59:
• The height of the hold is 9000 mm, which allows transportation of containers up to 9.6 feet high - "high cube containers" (3 such containers in height)
• Hatch covers of a removable type are installed. Opening and closing of each section is carried out with the help of a special gantry crane, which is located in the march near the fore bulkhead of the residential superstructure
• movement and controllability are provided by two RRS (better maneuverability in narrow areas, more cargo space due to reduction of the size of machine room).
One of the main advantages of the RSD59 project is the presence of a large hold 77.35 m long which allows oversized project cargoes to be transported in direct Europe-Caspian cargoes, which should significantly affect the overall financial result of the operation.
The project is designed for the class KM Ice2 R2 AUT1-ICS of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and meets all the requirements of international conventions in force at the time of the vessel's laying.
By displacement the vessels of RSD59 project are by far the largest of dry cargo vessels satisfying the dimensions of the Volga-Don shipping channel.
