According to the press service of the North-Western shipping company (NWSC), multipurpose dry cargo vessels of mixed river-sea navigation including project RSD49 type "Neva-Leader" were actively used by the shipping company for the transportation of grain cargoes from river terminals in the sea on raid transshipping complexes in the port area of the Caucasus with the subsequent loading on marine vessels (i.e., for lighterage).
In 2016, such transportation of grain cargoes on contracts North-Western shipping company (PC "NWSC", part of UCL Holding) amounted to 1.12 million tons, having exceeded for 35% results 2015. In general, the grain volume intended for lighterage, shipments of wheat amounted to about 900 thousand tons, exceeding by 55% the previous year, barley, corn, flax and other grain - 220 thousand tons. All operations on the grain lighterage were carried out in seaports of the Azov-Black sea basin. According to preliminary forecasts, in 2016 the volume of grain to lighterage will be about 60% of all grain cargoes of North-Western shipping company transported in export-import direction and between foreign ports. The increase in this segment in the structure of the NWS due to the significant cereal crops in 2016 and a high return on traffic to destination ports in Africa and the Middle East using ships with large carrying capacity.
In 2017 the company intends to increase lighterage of grain using ships "river-sea" navigation.
The lead ship of a series of RSD49 "Neva-Leader 1" was adopted on 26.11.12, the seventh - "Neva-Leader 7" - 23.12.13.
